Roger Schmidt out at Benfica.... finally

Benfica Blog
Roger Schmidt's time as Benfica manager is over as the board has made the decision to dismiss the German manager just four games into his third year at the club after a start that has seen the club drop five points in their first four league games.

When Roger Schmidt took the helm at Benfica in the summer of 2022, hopes were high and when the club came out flying, going undefeated in his first 29 games in charge across all competitions. Fans began to anticipate a season full of promise, victory and trophies.

These performances also captured the attention of the club's staff and board and President Rui Costa was quick to extend Schmidt's contract from the initial two years originally given to four years and then the wheels began to lose their air.

The team's play started to suffer with the departure of midfielder Enzo Fernandez to Chelsea during the winter transfer window of that same season and it seemed that whatever genius Schmidt may have had (if he had any) left with him.

Benfica ended up hanging on to capture the league title by two points that season and may have lost the championship all together if there were more games left during that campaign as their victories were not as dominant as some of the results may have indicated, club's had figured out the Schmidt system and he could not figure out how to adjust.

Schmidt should have been let go after last season's campaign that saw him capture his second and final trophy with the club to start the season, when they won the Portuguese Super Cup, but as the season grow longer, Schmidt's stubbornness and lack of in game decisions cost the club its share of points and ultimately the championship.

When, on paper, a club has the best squad in the league, as Benfica did last season, it is the manager's job to get the best out of those players. This was something Schmidt was unable to do or could not do and Benfica finished runner up to eventual champions Sporting.

Watching Benfica play these first few games felt like watching your favorite TV show slowly decline in quality. The vibrant football style that fans had come to love almost vanished. Instead of exhilarating plays and solid teamwork, there were frustrating moments where the squad looked lost and confused.

It’s no surprise fans became restless, questioning Schmidt’s tactics and the team’s overall direction. Once Schmidt decided it was best to include up to three defensive midfielders in his starting XI this season, you knew this was a manager playing to not lose as opposed to winning. A manager who knew his job was on the line if he got off to a poor start.

Given the situation, Benfica’s decision to part ways with Schmidt seems more understandable. A club with such a rich history can’t afford to drift aimlessly. Whether it's in sports or life, sometimes fresh perspectives are needed. Change, while difficult, can be the spark that ignites a team’s potential.

With Schmidt’s exit, many fans are left wondering what’s next for Benfica. The clock is ticking. Who will be the new face in the dugout? Could this new manager bring back the spark that the team desperately needs? The club’s history is built on triumphs, and it’s crucial they find a leader who can reignite that winning spirit.

The departure of Roger Schmidt marks a pivotal moment for Benfica. It isn't just a managerial change; it’s a signal that the club means business. For supporters, the upcoming weeks will be filled with uncertainty but also hope. A new beginning could be around the corner. After all, in football, just like in life, every ending leads to a new chapter.

Some of the names already being linked with the Benfica job are Sergio Conceicao, Leonardo Jardim, Daniel Sousa, Artur Jorge and Bruno Lage.

RB Leipzig's exciting move for Benfica's Antonio Silva

Benfica Blog
RB Leipzig is making headlines as they enter talks with Benfica about a potential loan move for rising star Antonio Silva. The center back is catching attention around Europe and Leipzig may be looking to make him a key player in their squad. Leipzig are open to adding an automatic buy clause to the loan deal set at €30 million to be paid at the end of the season, this deal could shake things up for both clubs.

Antonio Silva, the young Portuguese defender, has been a solid presence for Benfica. Known for his strong tackling and smart positioning, he brings a mix of youth and experience to the backline. Fans have noticed his ability to read the game and make crucial interceptions. Plus, at just 20 years of age, he’s got a bright future ahead, and a move to Leipzig could be the perfect stepping stone for his career.

So, why would Leipzig want Silva? The answer is simple. Leipzig has ambitions to compete at the highest level, both in the Bundesliga and in European competitions. A player like Silva would strengthen their defense significantly. Imagine a young talent learning from experienced defenders and adapting to the fast-paced style of the Bundesliga. It’s a match that could benefit both parties immensely.

In today's transfer market, youth is gold. Clubs are investing more in young, dynamic players who can adapt and shine quickly. Silva falls into this category and with more clubs scouting fresh talent, Leipzig's move makes strategic sense. They’re not just looking for a player; they’re aiming to build a team for the future.

Silva has appeared in 95 games across all competitions since bursting on the scene at Benfica at the age of 18, scoring seven goals, while appearing in 8,443 minutes of action. Silva was also a key member of Benfica's winning UEFA Youth League squad in 2022.

If Silva moves to Leipzig, Benfica will have to consider their options. Could they quickly find a replacement? Or will they rely on their academy talents to fill the gap? Benfica has a rich history of nurturing young players, so they might have a backup plan ready to go.

The talks between RB Leipzig and Benfica about Antonio Silva are stirring emotions among the fans. This potential move not only reflects Leipzig’s ambition but also shines a light on Silva’s growing reputation in football. If this deal does goes through, it could be a win-win for everyone involved, with both clubs poised to benefit in the long run. Keep an eye on this situation; it could evolve quickly as the transfer window inches to a close!

Benfica eye Real Betis keeper Rui Silva

Benfica Blog
Benfica is setting its sights on Real Betis keeper Rui Silva. With the team looking to bolster its squad, this potential move could shake things up, particularly in the keeper position. Currently, Anatoliy Trubin holds the number one spot, but the arrival of Silva would surely ignite a fierce competition for the starting job.

Lately, Benfica has been feeling the pressure in the goalkeeping department. Anatoliy Trubin, while talented, has had consistency issues in his performances. The club believes that adding a player like Rui Silva could not only provide support but also spark competition that could elevate everyone’s game.

Silva is known for his quick reflexes and ability to read the game, making him a strong candidate for Benfica's ambitions. His experience in La Liga adds an extra layer of skill that could benefit the team greatly. This isn't just a hunt for a backup; it's about building a stronger squad that can compete on all fronts.

Benfica has shown a clear interest in securing Silva, ideally through a loan deal. However, Real Betis isn’t exactly rolling out the red carpet. They’re asking for a fee of between €6 million and €8 million to let their keeper leave, which is a financial hurdle for Benfica who do not want to spend that much on a keeper that could be the club's back up.

Benfica wants to find a way to make this work without breaking the bank. This tug-of-war between what Benfica is willing to spend and what Betis is demanding could be a pivotal moment in the transfer window.

If Silva makes the move to Benfica, the stakes get higher for Trubin. Every player knows that competition can breathe life into a team. Both keepers would be fighting tooth and nail for that starting position, which could lead to improved performances on the field. It’s like a race where both competitors are pushing each other to the finish line.

The 30 year old Silva joined Real Betis in the summer of 2021 on a free transfer after spending three and half seasons with Granada. He spent three and half seasons prior to that with Madeira side Nacional.

As the situation develops, all eyes will be on Benfica. Will they make a bold move to get Rui Silva? Or will Betis stick to its guns and look for a permanent depature of their current starting keeper. This transfer saga is one to watch closely with the transfer window set to close shortly.

Joao Mario left out, is midfielder on his way out?

 Benfica Blog

The buzz around Joao Mario's omission from the game day squad has raised eyebrows and rumours are now intensifying that the midfielder will depart the club before the transfer window closes with reports of a host of Saudi and M.L.S. clubs interested in the 31 year old's services.

The atmosphere from Benfica fans last game at Joao Mario's substitution did not sit well with the midfielder who received whistles and boos from the stands. Mario was completely bothered as he did not appear post match to celebrate the club's Week 2 victory.

With whispers that Saudi, M.L.S and Turkish clubs all showing interest in Joao Mario, the midfielder may be looking at one final big pay day before calling it a career. The Benfica vice-captain looks to be at a crossroads in his career and with the transfer window closing shortly. The club is listening to offers.

Joao Mario joined Benfica in the summer of 2021 from Inter Milan and has appeared in 149 games for Benfica across all competitions, scoring 36 goals while providing 26 assists. He has captured the Portuguese League title and Super Cup while a member of the squad.

Benfica being linked with Burnley striker Amdouni

In recent days, reports have emerged linking Benfica with Burnley striker Zeki Amdouni, a player whose aspirations align closely with the ambitions of the Portuguese club. Amdouni, having recently experienced relegation with Burnley to the EFL Championship, is reportedly keen on securing a move before the transfer window closes. The urgency of his situation stems from his desire to avoid competing in a second-division league, which could hinder his professional growth and visibility in European football.

The potential acquisition of Amdouni by Benfica could serve multiple strategic purposes for the club. Primarily, he is not only a capable striker but can also operate effectively as a secondary striker. This versatility may prove invaluable following the departure of Rafa Silva, whose exit has left a noticeable gap within Benfica’s attacking lineup. By integrating Amdouni into their squad, Benfica would not only bolster their offensive options but also ensure continuity in their tactical approach.

Moreover, Amdouni's experience in the English Premier League equips him with skills that could enhance Benfica’s competitive edge both domestically and in European competitions. His ability to adapt to various positions on the pitch presents an attractive solution for head coach Roger Schmidt as he looks to optimize team dynamics and performance.

Amdouni joined Burnley in the summer of 2023 from Basil for €18.6M and appeared in 37 games across all competitions, scoring five goals while providing one helper. The arrival of 23 year old Swiss International would mean the end of Arthur Cabral's time at the club, as Benfica would be certain to move out the Brazilian striker.

UPDATE - 08-27-24

Amdouni is set to arrive in Lisbon tomorrow for medicals and if all goes well will sign loan deal with club with mandatory option to buy at seasons end of €15M.

Benfica looks for more talent to provide bench boost

Benfica Blog

Benfica’s quest for a stronger squad is heating up. With the right reinforcements, they could transform their bench in a stronger unit. The spotlight is on two current players: Ricardo Velho, the keeper from Farense, and Zakaria El Ouahdi, a right back from Genk.

Ricardo Velho has been turning heads with his impressive skills at Farense and has been linked with likes of Dortmund and Sevilla. As a keeper, he’s not just about making saves; he commands the box like a general leading troops into battle. His agility and quick reflexes keep opponents at bay, and he’s known for his ability to read the game, anticipating shots before they happen.

Benfica are looking at Velho as an alternative to Trubin and feel confident that he would serve as a capable back up who could step in if Benfica's current number one was to suffer an injury. His experience in the Primeira Liga is a significant advantage, that the 26 year old would provide in enhancing the squad depth. Plus, this would give Benfica the opportunity to loan out current back up Samuel Soares, for regular playing time.

Switching gears to the defense, Zakaria El Ouahdi from Genk is another name on Benfica’s radar. This 22 year old right back isn’t just a defender; he’s an asset that can change the pace of the game. With an eye for attacking opportunities, El Ouahdi brings a dynamic style that blends perfectly with aggressive offense and robust defense.

His ability to join the attack while tracking back ensures that Benfica’s flanks remain strong and unpredictable. Fans love to see full-backs who not only defend but also push forward to create scoring chances. El Ouahdi could add that spark to Benfica’s playing style and provide competition to current starter Alexander Bah.

The depth on the bench can keep starters fresh and ready, which is crucial for a long season. When every player is pushing each other for a spot in the lineup, it raises everyone’s game. Benfica would like to land both players for under €10M each, which is currently a non starter for both Farense and Genk.

As the clock counts down to the closing of the transfer window, the club hopes that both Velho and El Ouahdi can don the team's colours for an affordable price point.

Benfica looking at options for attack with Barca youngster on their radar

Benfica Blog
Benfica is actively exploring opportunities to bolster their attacking options and one intriguing prospect is the potential loan signing of Barcelona’s young star, Ansu Fati. At just 21 years old, Fati has already gained widespread recognition for his explosive pace, dribbling skills, and ability to find the back of the net, making him a highly sought-after prospect in European football.

Benfica, keen to enhance their attacking prowess and add depth to their squad, views Fati as an ideal candidate to inject creativity and flair into their forward line. With Barcelona's current financial situation and the highly competitive nature of La Liga, a loan deal could be beneficial for all parties involved. For Fati, it presents an excellent opportunity to gain valuable playing time and develop further by taking on a pivotal role at Benfica, where he could become a key figure in the team.

Benfica would gain a talented winger capable of stretching defenses and providing crucial assists. The potential acquisition of Fati not only reflects Benfica's ambition to compete at the highest levels, both domestically and in European competition, but also their commitment to nurturing young, dynamic talent. If the move materializes, it could serve as a significant boost for both the player and the club in their quest for success.

Fatu spent last season on loan at Brighton and appeared in 27 games across all competitions, scoring four goals, while providing one assist in 994 minutes of action. Fatu missed two months of the season while at Brighton due to a calf injury. Benfica are hoping to seal the loan move before the transfer window closes at the end of month.

Roger Schmidt is a manager stuck in a rut at Benfica

Benfica Blog
When you look at the Benfica squad, you see talent everywhere. So why does Roger Schmidt choose to ignore it? With a lineup missing wingers and filled with defensive midfielders, it feels like he's driving a sports car in a school zone. Why does this style leave fans scratching their heads?

Florentino, Barreiro and Aursnes might be good players, but cramming them into the starting eleven is like packing sardines into a can. The balance is off. Schmidt relies heavily on defensive midfielders, which stifles creativity and risks turning the game into a tedious affair. Like a movie with no plot twist, the matches can become predictable, leaving fans bored and even frustrated.

Benfica did get the win today in their home opener at the Luz but it took them 70 minutes to open the scoring today and 160 minutes to score their first goal of the season but this only happened when Schmidt inserted winger Tiago Gouveia and attacking midfielder Orkun Kokcu into the game. This changed the dynamics of the attack and it powered the club to a 3-0 victory over Casa Pia.

Someone needs to tell Schmidt that wingers are essential for an attacking team. They add width and speed, stretching the opponent's defense thin. Yet, here we are, watching Benfica start games without anyone to whip in a cross or run down the flank. Instead of unleashing attacking plays, the team seems stuck in an up and down seesaw affair.

In today’s football world, creativity is key. With a setup that lacks flair and spontaneity, Benfica's attack can look lifeless. You start to wonder: Is it the players or the strategy? When players are meticulous with their passes but nothing ever seems to turn into a shot on goal, it feels like they’re trapped in a never-ending loop of passing drills at practice.

Benfica fans expect more than just solid defending; they crave excitement and goals. A team with so much potential shouldn’t be stuck playing it safe. It is not hard to see that Roger Schmidt seems more concerned with keeping his job then he is at actually playing to win games against the leagues minnows.

In the grand scheme of things, Schmidt’s approach might just confuse fans more than anything else. By overlooking the vital role of wingers and loading up on defensive midfielders, he's limiting the team's ability to attack. If Benfica wants to thrive, it’s time for a fresh outlook—a strategy that embraces offensive play and captures the spirit of the fans.

We are just two games into the season and although some of the players have changed, the coach remains an anchor holding this team back. It might just be time to throw him over board and keep steering the ship towards our goals without him.

Sanches will be the heartbeat of Benfica's attack

Benfica is gearing up for a thrilling season, and Renato Sanches is set to be a crucial piece of their midfield puzzle. His talent and energy can light up the field, but there's a catch. Staying healthy is a big deal for him and the team. The current situation with Benfica’s midfield options isn’t exactly ideal, making Sanches' role even more vital.

Renato Sanches is more than just a player. He’s a spark in Benfica's attack. His ability to maneuver through defenders, pick a perfect pass, or strike from distance can change the course of a match. Imagine him as a conductor of an orchestra, guiding the tempo and rhythm. Without him, the music can feel pretty off-key.

When Sanches is healthy and on the field, fans can expect creativity and dynamism. His vision allows him to see plays before they unfold. He’s like a chess master, always thinking a few moves ahead. This kind of skill isn’t just important; it’s necessary for Benfica to break down tough defenses.

Without Sanches, Benfica could struggle to create scoring chances and maintain control of the game. Their current midfielders might not match his skill level or versatility, which puts extra pressure on Sanches to step up.

Staying fit is a major concern for Sanches. Injuries have hampered his career at various points, and for Benfica to reach their potential, they need him healthy. It’s not just about being on the field; it’s about being at the top of his game. The longer he can maintain his fitness, the better for Benfica. Each match he plays is a chance for him to shine and help elevate the team to new heights.

Renato Sanches is poised to be the heartbeat of Benfica's midfield this season. His skill, creativity, and vision can lift the team where it needs to go. However, the key to success lies in his health. With limited creativity options in the midfield, Sanches must stay in top shape to ensure Benfica can compete at its best.

His return to the club has been a positive move by Benfica and his presence is vital, with the stakes high, the pressure is on. Let’s hope he can shine and help Benfica towards a successful season.

Benfica baffles in season opening loss to Famalicao

Benfica Blog
Benfica's season kicked off with an unexpected thud as they fell 2-0 to Famalicao. Fans were left scratching their heads, not just because of the loss, but also due to the strange lineup chosen by coach Roger Schmidt. With three defensive midfielders and no wingers on the field, many are wondering what he was thinking.

Starting the season with a solid game plan is crucial, but Schmidt's choices left many questioning his strategy. Instead of employing dynamic wingers who can stretch the field and create scoring opportunities, he opted for his favourites playing out of position. What was meant to be a tactical masterclass turned into a perplexing puzzle.

With three defensive midfielders on the pitch, in Florentino, Aursnes and Barreiro it felt like Benfica was playing not to lose rather than going for the win. This defensive posture is like bringing a knife to a gunfight. They might have had good intentions, but it certainly didn't work out.

Benfica supporters are notoriously passionate and vocal. After just one match, frustrations began boiling over. Fans flooded social media, expressing their discontent. How could a club with Benfica's rich history come out with such a dud after last season's disappointing campaign.

The uproar was palpable. “We need attackers, not a fortress,” one fan exclaimed, perfectly capturing the sentiment of so many others. It’s hard to blame them. A season opener should inspire hope, not dread, what was the point of a line up lacking wingers when there where two sitting on the bench.

Famalicao deserves credit for coming out with a clear game plan. They capitalized on Benfica’s uncharacteristic lack of offensive threat. By pressuring the midfield and exploiting the mistakes created by the club to score a goal in each half, much to the delight of their home crowd fans.

With the season just starting, it’s clear that adjustments are needed. Will Schmidt continue with this unorthodox lineup, or will he adapt to the mounting pressure. The next few matches will be crucial. Consistency is key in football, and if Benfica hopes to challenge for the title, they need to quickly find their rhythm and use players in positions that they will thrive.

We need to learn from last season's mistakes not start creating new ones in 2024-25. The Hysteria just one game in may be a bit over board but with rivals Sporting and FC Porto picking up season opening wins. You can't blame the fans for just feeling that they were right all along in wanting Schmidt gone last season only to see club President Rui Costa bring him back.

On a bright note, Tomas Araujo looked very good in the starting center back role and a UEFA Youth League reunion with partner Antonio Silva that saw the pair capture the championship in 2022, could be a very promising twosome for the upcoming season.

Benfica will look to get things right in their season opening home game against Casa Pia next week but the clock is already ticking on Schmidt and Costa's futures with the club.

Benfica's road to redemption as League season to commence

Benfica Blog
As the sun rises on a new season, Benfica is set to clash with Famalicao tomorrow, igniting hopes of reclaiming the Portuguese League title. The excitement is palpable, and fans are eager to see how manager Roger Schmidt plans to steer the ship this time around.

The team is eager to reclaim its place at the top of the Portuguese League. Fans, who once cheered loudly, have expressed their frustrations, and it’s clear that the pressure is on manager Roger Schmidt to get it right this time around and the stakes couldn't be higher for him entering game one of the season.

Schmidt finds himself in a challenging position. Last season's results left much to be desired, leading to discontent among the supporters. When fans feel let down, tensions rise. Schmidt needs to show that he can adapt and turn the tide. His coaching skills will be put to the test as he navigates through the pressures of high expectations. Can he rally the team and inspire them to greatness? Only time will tell.

The fans, who have remained loyal through thick and thin, will be hoping to witness a dynamic and resilient Benfica side that can challenge for the title with conviction this season. As the players take to the field, the echoes of the past year's struggles will linger, but the prospect of a fresh start and the quest for glory will undoubtedly fuel their ambition.

Benfica preparing transfer shuffle before deadline day

Benfica Blog
As the summer transfer window passes the half way mark from the deadline, Benfica is gearing up for a dramatic reshuffle. With several players on the chopping block, as the club looks set to make significant changes.

One of the hottest names linked with a move is David Neres. The Brazilian winger, known for his flair and pace, has reportedly caught the eye of Napoli. With the Serie A club aiming to strengthen its squad, reports say Napoli and Neres' agent have come to terms on salary but Benfica has still not received the €25M that they want to move on from the player.

Striker Casper Tengstedt is another name linked with a departure from the club this summer and Italian side Hellas Verona is close to closing a loan deal for the Danish 24 year old that will include a buy option of around €7M for 70% of the players pass. Verona is hoping to strengthen their attack with a player that would struggle for minutes at Benfica this season.

Lastly, we've got Tiago Gouveia, who seems to be making headlines with a potential switch to Anderlecht. The Portuguese midfielder has shown promise but hasn’t quite found his groove at Benfica. Moving to Belgium could be the key that unlocks his full potential but Benfica would only be interested in loaning the player out for regular playing time.

As these deals unfold, it’s clear that Benfica is not just looking to offload players; they’re strategizing for the future. Every transfer is a step toward building a more formidable squad. The club's leadership understands that sometimes you have to let go of talent to create space for new prospects who can contribute more effectively.

Benfica bring back Angel di Maria for one more season

Benfica Blog
In a move that has captured headlines and hearts, Angel di Maria has made the heartfelt choice to rejoin Benfica at the age of 36. While other clubs threw lucrative offers his way, Di Maria opted for a different path—one that emphasizes family stability and personal connections over financial gain. Isn’t it refreshing to see an athlete value roots and relationships? Just like a warm hug from home, Di Maria’s return brings comfort to Benfica fans and players alike.

For many, Di Maria isn’t just a player; he’s a symbol of Benfica’s vibrant history. His original stint with the club saw him rise to prominence, showcasing his dazzling skills and unmatched dedication. Now, at 36, he’s returning one more time, not just as a seasoned athlete but as a mentor and a leader. This isn’t merely about football; it’s about bonds and continuing the passion he has for the club. It’s like returning to your favorite childhood playground—familiar, inviting, and filled with memories.

Accepting Benfica’s offer signifies more than just a contract; it’s a commitment to a team he loves. Di Maria has the chance to play alongside rising stars, while sharing his experience and knowledge. Imagine the influence he can have on young talent in Rollheiser, Prestianni and Schjelderup. His presence can bolster the team’s morale and lead them to success in the upcoming season.

Di Maria last season appeared in 48 games for Benfica across all competitions, proving himself to be a vital player for the club. With 17 goals and 15 assists in nearly 4000 minutes of action, Di Maria showcased his talent and determination that he still possesses even as he gets up in years and was a trusted piece of Roger Schmidt's club project.

Choosing family stability over a more lucrative offer is a powerful statement in today’s sports world. In a culture where contracts can often overshadow personal values, Di Maria’s decision is a testament to what truly matters. It’s a reminder that, at the end of the day, it’s not just about the goals scored or trophies won—it’s about the people we hold dear. Like a sturdy bridge connecting two shores, Di Maria’s choice reflects the importance of finding balance between career ambitions and personal life.

As Angel di Maria dons the Benfica jersey once again, fans can look forward to a season filled with passion, excitement, and nostalgia. His choice to return emphasizes the importance of family and connection in the world of sports. So, let’s raise a toast to this legendary player—may his journey at Benfica be one for the history books, reminding us all that home is where the heart is.

Benfica's Bold move: Joao Neves to PSG and Renato Sanches returns

Benfica Blog

Benfica's recent transfer activity has created quite a buzz in the football world. Selling Joao Neves to Paris Saint-Germain for €60 million, with the potential for an additional €10 million in incentives, marks a significant chapter in both the player's and the club's story. But that’s not all—Renato Sanches is coming back to Benfica on loan, with a buy option of €10 million at the season's end.

Joao Neves has emerged as one of the most promising young talents in football. His exceptional skills on the pitch and impressive performances have caught the eye of many top clubs, especially PSG. The €60 million fee reflects not just his current ability but also his potential as a future star. Such transfers are like planting a seed; clubs invest today for the hope of a fruitful future.

Neves' move to PSG opens doors for him to train and play alongside some of the best players in the world. Imagine being a young artist stepping into a gallery filled with masterpieces—this is just the beginning of Neves’ journey in elite football.

Benfica has structured the deal with potential incentives that could lead to a total of €70 million for Neves. This kind of arrangement is like a safety net; it ensures the club benefits if the player excels. If Neves rises to the occasion at PSG, Benfica stands to gain even more, making this a savvy business move.

This approach reflects a growing trend in football finance, where clubs are not just selling players outright but instead looking for creative ways to maximize their investments. It’s a win-win scenario, provided Neves lives up to the expectations.

In a twist of fate, Renato Sanches is making his way back to Benfica on loan from PSG. This reunion is both exciting and strategic. Sanches, who has already had his share of ups and downs in his career, brings experience and flair back to his former club. It’s like bringing back an old friend who knows all the right moves.

With a buy option of €10 million at the end of the season, Benfica is playing it smart. If Sanches fits back into the team and proves his worth, they have a chance to secure him permanently and can potentially cash in on the player again if he is to return to form.

This kind of flexibility is crucial in today’s fast-paced football landscape, allowing clubs to adapt to changing circumstances.

With these moves, Benfica is not just reshuffling their players; they’re redefining their strategy. Bringing back Sanches adds depth and creativity to the midfield. On the other hand, the departure of Neves opens up opportunities for other young talents at Benfica. It’s a classic case of one door closing and another opening.

Benfica's decision to sell Joao Neves and bring back Renato Sanches is more than just a series of transfers. It’s a clear statement about the club's ambitions and its approach to football in a competitive market.

As these changes unfold, fans will be eagerly watching how the new dynamics play out on the pitch. It’s the thrill of the game, the unpredictability of transfers, and the hope of watching talents blossom that keeps the spirit of football alive. Benfica’s bold moves may just be the catalyst for a remarkable season ahead.

Rui Costa admits Benfica is not in position for Joao Felix

Benfica Blog
Football's a game where dreams collide with reality. For Benfica fans, the idea of Joao Felix returning to their squad sparks imaginations of dazzling runs and thrilling goals. But as reality sets in, Benfica President Rui Costa has laid down the harsh truth: the club simply can't afford Felix right now.

Costa spoke to reporters yesterday before the club's final tune up game of the pre-season and was clear in the wants and reality for a move in re-acquiring Seixal academy product Felix from Atletico Madrid for the upcoming season.

Felix's talent is undeniable. He spent last season on loan at Barcelona, where he showcased his skills. Yet, that experience comes with a hefty price tag. Atletico Madrid isn't going to let one of their prized possessions go on the cheap after paying €127M for him and Benfica's financial constraints mean they have to be smart with their spending.

In football, clubs often have to think on their feet. While the dream of bringing back the 24 year old Felix is appealing, Benfica may have to explore other options. Maybe there are hidden gems in the market or emerging talents who could make a significant impact without breaking the bank.

Rui Costa has a challenging task ahead—balancing ambition with financial responsibility. If he navigates these waters smartly, Benfica might find players who can light up the stadium, even without the presence of Felix.

Fans must stay hopeful, though. Football is a game of surprises. Just as a last-minute goal can change the course of a match, a smart signing could lead to a new chapter for Benfica. With Rui Costa at the helm, the club is striving for a comeback, keeping dreams alive while keeping a close eye on the balance sheet.

The news about Joao Felix’s return not being financially viable is a blow for many Benfica supporters. However, acknowledging the challenges is the first step towards crafting a brighter future for the club.

Zenit targets Orkun Kokcu, a potential €25M move?

Benfica Blog
Have you heard the latest? Russian football club Zenit St. Petersburg is looking to make waves in the transfer market and they have set their sights on Benfica’s talented midfielder, Orkun Kokcu. The 23-year-old Turkish star has caught the eye of many clubs, and it looks like Zenit is willing to put their money where their mouth is and ready to offer Benfica €25 million to snag him according to reports out of Russia.

By choosing to invest in Kokcu, Zenit could be set to strengthen their midfield in ways that could shift their performance dramatically for their upcoming season. Offering €25M is not pocket change and shows the seriousness of Zenit's interest in landing the Turkish International.

Benfica know they have a valuable asset on their hands and are in a strong position to negotiate. Will they let him go for €25 million? or are they aiming for a higher price?
