Benfica being linked with Burnley striker Amdouni

In recent days, reports have emerged linking Benfica with Burnley striker Zeki Amdouni, a player whose aspirations align closely with the ambitions of the Portuguese club. Amdouni, having recently experienced relegation with Burnley to the EFL Championship, is reportedly keen on securing a move before the transfer window closes. The urgency of his situation stems from his desire to avoid competing in a second-division league, which could hinder his professional growth and visibility in European football.

The potential acquisition of Amdouni by Benfica could serve multiple strategic purposes for the club. Primarily, he is not only a capable striker but can also operate effectively as a secondary striker. This versatility may prove invaluable following the departure of Rafa Silva, whose exit has left a noticeable gap within Benfica’s attacking lineup. By integrating Amdouni into their squad, Benfica would not only bolster their offensive options but also ensure continuity in their tactical approach.

Moreover, Amdouni's experience in the English Premier League equips him with skills that could enhance Benfica’s competitive edge both domestically and in European competitions. His ability to adapt to various positions on the pitch presents an attractive solution for head coach Roger Schmidt as he looks to optimize team dynamics and performance.

Amdouni joined Burnley in the summer of 2023 from Basil for €18.6M and appeared in 37 games across all competitions, scoring five goals while providing one helper. The arrival of 23 year old Swiss International would mean the end of Arthur Cabral's time at the club, as Benfica would be certain to move out the Brazilian striker.

UPDATE - 08-27-24

Amdouni is set to arrive in Lisbon tomorrow for medicals and if all goes well will sign loan deal with club with mandatory option to buy at seasons end of €15M.
