Rui Costa admits Benfica is not in position for Joao Felix

Benfica Blog
Football's a game where dreams collide with reality. For Benfica fans, the idea of Joao Felix returning to their squad sparks imaginations of dazzling runs and thrilling goals. But as reality sets in, Benfica President Rui Costa has laid down the harsh truth: the club simply can't afford Felix right now.

Costa spoke to reporters yesterday before the club's final tune up game of the pre-season and was clear in the wants and reality for a move in re-acquiring Seixal academy product Felix from Atletico Madrid for the upcoming season.

Felix's talent is undeniable. He spent last season on loan at Barcelona, where he showcased his skills. Yet, that experience comes with a hefty price tag. Atletico Madrid isn't going to let one of their prized possessions go on the cheap after paying €127M for him and Benfica's financial constraints mean they have to be smart with their spending.

In football, clubs often have to think on their feet. While the dream of bringing back the 24 year old Felix is appealing, Benfica may have to explore other options. Maybe there are hidden gems in the market or emerging talents who could make a significant impact without breaking the bank.

Rui Costa has a challenging task ahead—balancing ambition with financial responsibility. If he navigates these waters smartly, Benfica might find players who can light up the stadium, even without the presence of Felix.

Fans must stay hopeful, though. Football is a game of surprises. Just as a last-minute goal can change the course of a match, a smart signing could lead to a new chapter for Benfica. With Rui Costa at the helm, the club is striving for a comeback, keeping dreams alive while keeping a close eye on the balance sheet.

The news about Joao Felix’s return not being financially viable is a blow for many Benfica supporters. However, acknowledging the challenges is the first step towards crafting a brighter future for the club.

Zenit targets Orkun Kokcu, a potential €25M move?

Benfica Blog
Have you heard the latest? Russian football club Zenit St. Petersburg is looking to make waves in the transfer market and they have set their sights on Benfica’s talented midfielder, Orkun Kokcu. The 23-year-old Turkish star has caught the eye of many clubs, and it looks like Zenit is willing to put their money where their mouth is and ready to offer Benfica €25 million to snag him according to reports out of Russia.

By choosing to invest in Kokcu, Zenit could be set to strengthen their midfield in ways that could shift their performance dramatically for their upcoming season. Offering €25M is not pocket change and shows the seriousness of Zenit's interest in landing the Turkish International.

Benfica know they have a valuable asset on their hands and are in a strong position to negotiate. Will they let him go for €25 million? or are they aiming for a higher price? The  club will need to weigh the benefits of keeping Kokcu or selling him. In football, it’s all about striking the right balance between talent and investment.

Kokcu had spurts of brilliance last season with Benfica and a move to his more familiar attacking position could not only benefit the player but Benfica also. Kokcu appeared in 43 games across all competitions last season, scoring seven goals while providing seven helpers.
